ATTN: All Palos Club Members
Please read the below information I just received from Greg Hahn at AMA Headquarters. The FAA has issued a TFR which prohibits ALL air traffic including RC Models within 30 miles of Chicago, which includes our Palos flying field. So, we will not be allowed to fly at our field this Wednesday and Thursday (August 4th and 5th). Please pass this information to all members and any non-members that you know. We do not want to jeopardize our flying field by violating federal law. We are grounded.
New FDC NOTAM/TFRs have been issued for the greater Chicago, IL metro area for Wednesday, 8/4 and Thursday, 8/5 from 4:30p CDT Wed, until 8:15p Thu. The TFRs are issued for security purposes to cover VIP movement in this area. Model aircraft operations are prohibited within the 30nm circles during the specific times listed below. Please note that TFRs are subject to change with very short notice. Check back often for the most current NOTAM/TFR information.
Timely alerts are also available on the web or on you cell phone at: Twitter.com/amagov.
See the link to the TFRs below for more detailed information regarding the restrictions.

UPDATE - Palos Sign Theft |
Monday, 02 August 2010 01:18 |
There is some good news to report. It appears that the person(s) that stole our Palos RC Sign has for some reason, reconsidered and decided to return the sign. The sign magically showed up at the flying field entrance on Sunday, August 2nd. We will reinstall it as soon as time allows.
We would like to think that this person(s), after having read the article here in our instant news, decided to do the right thing. We thank this person(s) for the change of heart, and hope this will never happen again. There is no need for these types of things to occur. We encourage anyone to talk with any of our board members to resolve any issues that may or may not really exist. We will be glad to listen and help resolve any issues if we can. |

VANDALISM AND THEFT OF PALOS RC PROPERTY |
Tuesday, 27 July 2010 21:16 |
Not long ago the Palos RC Flying Club sign was intentionally damaged. It had been bent back and forth to the point of almost breaking, but it appears that they may have been interrupted. Maybe someone was approaching and scared them off. We took the sign down, straightened it and then firmly reattached the sign to a new spot on the board in such a way so that it could not be bent again. A few days later it was then stolen from the newly mounted position. This person came prepared as the screws were completely removed. It is now obvious that this was no random act of vandalism, but was an intentional and personal attack against the Palos Flying Club.
You may have noticed it on your trips to the field. It was a very nice and expensive sign that had the club name and web site on it. It was reflective yellow and hung on the spectator side at the top of the frequency board next to a similar sign of the 107th Aero squadron. It would be fair to say whoever did this is guilty of the crime of vandalism, theft of property and theft from county owned property.
I am sure that most will agree, that this act is that of a simple minded individual who has the mentality of a child, and probably now feels like "he showed us" for whatever reason that he is not happy with our club. Hopefully, the person that did this is reading this article. If so, let it be known, that we as a club are not impressed or intimidated. There are far more important problems in the world than you.
The club will hang another sign. It may stay or it may get stolen again. If it gets stolen again we at least know the type of person who stole it.
Anyone having any knowledge of who this person is, please contact us, as complaints will be signed and we will prosecute. You can do so anonymously by sending this info to our PO Box listed on the web site.
If this person wants to grow up, and put an end to this now, it is simple, return the sign immediately and all will be forgotten. If this person decides to keep the sign, then we hope you enjoy it and the feeling it gives you, because without being able to brag about your accomplishment, you will always remain a legend in your own mind. |
